Castlebar upgrade wastewater treatment with Grundfos pumps

Castlebar is located in County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. The town is the administrative seat for the county and is a busy centre for a range of businesses in the region. At present, there are approximately 50 manufacturing companies in the county, which is reckoned to be one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Ireland.

This means that new inhabitants and industries are now attracted to the Castlebar area because of its excellent infrastructure and clean environment. Part of this is due to the recent upgrade of the pumping system at the Castlebar wastewater treatment plant.

The Situation
Castlebar takes pride in their high-quality water supply, which is why Grundfos was chosen as partner when the Castlebar wastewater infrastructure needed upgrading. Grundfos were selected as the pump supplier of choice because the company were able to meet all the strict specifications and delivery criteria. The project was completed by Dublin-based Earthtech Ireland Limited.

The Grundfos Solution
The upgrade required explosion-proof, dry-well pumps which is why Grundfos 65 kW pumps with stainless steel impellers were selected for this pumping station project. The pumps impellers were coated with a special corrosive-resistant material, as a lot of heavy industrial waste is poured into the main pump station.

The Outcome
The project was carried out successfully, and everyone has been very pleased with the result. Before the implementation of the project, representatives of Earthtech Ireland visited the Grundfos plant in Helsinki, Finland, to witness test the three pumps involved in the project. The client was impressed both with the facilities and the professionalism of the Grundfos personnel in Helsinki and they left with a very positive impression that convinced them that choosing Grundfos to supply their pump needs was the right decision.
