EUROPE’S LARGEST HANDBALL ARENA USES GRUNDFOS FOR RELIABILITY, SAVING ENERGY

Europe’s largest handball arena opened in Budapest, Hungary, in January 2022 with the opening of the 2022 EHF European Men's Handball Championship (EHF EURO). The MVM Dome (formerly known as the Budapest Multifunctional Sports Hall) can accommodate up to 20,000 spectators.

Grundfos pumps exclusively move water, heat and cooling and wastewater around the MVM Dome. Most are ePumps – which means they are controlled electronically to run at the optimal speed according to actual demand – for heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) applications, water supply, firefighting system applications and technical ice rink circulation, as well as regular wastewater pumps.

The solution

“It is essential that the pumps within this stadium run smoothly and without faults when the stadium is in use. All 63 Grundfos pumps are set to work reliably behind the scenes, securing all occupants with the optimal comfort level and efficient water supply, while maintaining optimal power consumption in the stadium,” says Szilveszter Geyer of Grundfos South East Europe Kft.

“The pumps were specified from early design phase due to a holistic approach we used during technical meetings with our consultant partners,” he adds.

All the pumps are integrated with the arena’s BMS system. In addition, the built-in intelligence allows MVM Dome’s operational crew to access all main pump data via the Grundfos GO remote function, which allows connection via Bluetooth with a smartphone or tablet.

“The project was a real end-to-end cooperation,” says Szilveszter.
