Working together with Singapore Polytechnic to bring sustainable solutions to life
08-Jul-2024
Partnerships are crucial in not only accelerating our sustainability ambition in our own operations, but also amplifying our green solutions for the wider industry.
Walking The Talk
After the signing of the MoU with SP, we quickly got to work – starting with our Grundfos Asia-Pacific headquarters here in Singapore.
Recognising the importance of leading by example, the 14,700m3 Grundfos’ facilities in Singapore sets out to be both water and energy efficient. It currently holds the Gold Green Mark certified by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
With the goal of moving from Gold to Platinum for Green Mark certification, SP and Grundfos Singapore worked closely on a feasibility study to identify the facilities’ gaps and opportunities to further reduce energy consumption.
Through SP’s extensive knowledge in Green Mark Accreditation, students and Lead Academic staffs from both School of Architecture & The Built Environment and School of Chemical Life Science established existing energy consumption baseline levels, curated learning journeys to BCA’s SkyLab and ZEB Plus, and introduced relevant decarbonisation grants from government agencies.
The most crucial contribution was when SP conducted research on achieving greater efficiencies. From this research six strategic approaches were developed, including:
- energy creation through photovoltaics panels to yield renewable energy source from solar,
- energy savings through optimised cooling systems and lighting,
- water conservation through a rainwater harvesting system.
Bringing Solutions to Life
Beyond transforming within, the sustainability journey is also an industry-wide effort. With a strong understanding of what Grundfos has to offer in terms of sustainable solutions, SP recognised the importance of bringing greater awareness to other businesses on how new sustainability technology creates value for business operations. Regularly participating and organising a range of industry events, SP took the opportunity to amplify Grundfos’ scope in both commercial building and industrial sectors, through real-life showcases that demonstrate the solutions in action.
In 2022, with Grundfos’ innovative iBoiler system as the focus, Grundfos was a part of SP’s booth at the International Built Environment Week (IBEW) in September, as well as the Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC (ITAP) in October, specifically the SP Industrial Transformation experience zone. A system for boiler feed applications utilising Grundfos’ CRE pump, iBoiler is an intelligent system that is energy efficient through two ways: by accurately maintaining the level within the boiler itself, and operating at a duty point that runs at a lower speed.
Grundfos also showcased its solutions at SP’s ‘Values-Based Green Transition – For Singapore Businesses’ sustainability event in August with its APAC Industry demo truck. The truck features a range of world-class sustainable water technologies where visitors can understand how these solutions can help industries reduce their carbon footprint, from energy optimisation to improving the overall product sustainability with eco-design principles embedded through the entire product life cycle.
Beyond showcasing how Grundfos provides end-to-end solutions for the built environment and industries, these showcases demonstrate another key win-win outcome from our partnership. Both parties brought their strengths to the table – Grundfos with its expertise, and SP with its platform and partners, to give clear and specific solutions to SMEs in Singapore for their sustainability journey, ultimately contributing to Singapore’s broader green goals.
