Help your customers reduce energy consumption with intelligent temperature control

The most efficient solutions require more than just pump efficiency. The whole system needs to be efficient, and Grundfos E-pumps help achieve this with motors that come with built-in intelligence.

Our MLE motors are equipped with an integrated frequency drive that enables a wide range of application control modes. The motors are used in several Grundfos pumps, including the vertical, multistage centrifugal CRE pump, the single-stage in-line centrifugal TPE pumps, and the horizontal end-suction NBE/NKE and CME pumps.

While our pumps do not have high individual energy requirements, they consume a significant amount of the overall energy as they’re always running. Other components, such as compressors, are not always in operation, leading to lower energy consumption.

By utilising the built-in intelligence in our E-pumps, you can improve energy efficiency and achieve a constant temperature in the system, using either a regulating valve, a differential pressure sensor, or direct temperature control.

If you want to learn more about different ways of achieving temperature control in a pump system, download our whitepaper below. Here’s a quick sum-up of what you can find.

  • A regulating valve requires the biggest pump as it needs to overcome pressure loss in both the heat exchanger and the control valve. Here, the pump is always running at full speed.
  • A differential pressure sensor solution requires the same size pump, but the energy consumption is reduced because the speed of the pump is adjusted to keep a constant differential pressure over the control valve. The CAPEX of the solution is more expensive than a regulating valve, but the lifecycle cost is lower.
  • At Grundfos, we recommend direct temperature control as it has the lowest CAPEX and lifecycle cost. This is because the pump doesn’t need to overcome pressure loss in the control valve, and therefore can be downsized. Even with different load profiles, a direct temperature control solution will always provide the highest energy savings.

Simply changing the way you operate a pump in a simple heat exchanger unit can make a huge difference in energy consumption. Learn how in our whitepaper.
