Castlebar upgrade wastewater treatment with Grundfos pumps

CASTLEBAR, IRELAND: Castlebar is located in Mayo County in the western part of Ireland. The town is the administrative seat for thecounty and is a buzzingcentre for business in the region. At thepresent, there are approximately 50 manufacturing industries in the county, which is reckoned to be one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Ireland.

Both new inhabitants and industries are attracted to Castlebar because of its well-functioning infrastructure and its clean environment. Accordingly, the recent upgrade of pumping systems at the Castlebar wastewater treatment plant plays a major role in ensuring a clean environment for the people of Castlebar.

The Situation
The people of Castlebar take pride in their high-quality water supply, which is why Grundfos was chosen as pump supplier, when the Castlebar wastewater infrastructure needed upgrading. Grundfos was chosen as pump supplier because the company met the strict specifications and delivery criteria better than its competitors. The project has been carried out by Dublin-based Earthtech Ireland Limited.

The Grundfos Solution
The upgrading required explosion-proof, dry-well pumps, which is why Grundfos 65 kW pumps with Stainless Steel impellers were implemented in the pumping station. A lot of heavy industrial waste is poured into the main pump station and therefore the pumps required special corrosive-resistant material for the impeller.

The Outcome
The project was carried out successfully, and the customer has been very pleased with the result. Before the implementation of the project, representatives of Earthtech Ireland visited the Grundfos plant in Helsinki, Finland, to supervise the testing of the three pumps. Both the facilities and the professionalism of the Grundfos personnel in Helsinki left a very positive impression and convinced the client that chosing Grundfos as their pump supplier was the right desicion.
