Teaming up to play for the climate in Bangkok
Conrad Bangkok - a luxury living establishment part of the Hilton Group, recently chose to amplify their sustainability potential through a pump replacement exercise aided by Grundfos, the world leading manufacturer of pumps and pumping solutions.
The Background
Conrad Bangkok is a sprawling high rise building at the heart of Bangkok’s Central Business District. The hotel is always bustling with guests and boasts of premium amenities such as an outdoor pool, spa and wellness, award-wining restaurants, bars and tropical gardens.
The Situation
In line with the parent group Hilton’s ESG goal ‘Travel with Purpose’ – group hotels are encouraged to work towards net- zero future and climate conscious travel through operational excellence. Conrad Bangkok’s facility team was grappling with the challenge of operating with 20+ year old whilst still operational, the older pumps were inefficient and presented substantial maintenance needs.
The Solution
A full HVAC systems audit by Grundfos revealed a strong energy savings potential through upgrade of the older pumps. A collaborative techno commercial discussion ensued, following which Conrad Bangkok opted for new Split case
HVAC Chiller Condenser pumps, replacing older models. These optimized pumps came with a reduced energy output which was a significant leap towards conserving energy without compromising on guest comfort and conveniences. The new pumps were offered as a part of the Grundfos Energy Earnings scheme – a performance-based payment model where Conrad and Grundfos would be mutually sharing the savings over a 5-year period.
The Outcome
The upgraded equipment helped Conrad Bangkok save around 72000 kWHr of energy, which is 18% less compared to the older pumps. A commendable addition to Hilton’s green transition pathway, this saved energy is roughly the equivalent of 33,480 kgs of carbon emission reduction.
This collaboration continues to nurture the strong business relationship between Grundfos and Hilton, and is yet another prized feather in our sustainability cap.
