Safe Water for All

A Partnership in Bangladesh Delivers 185,000 Litres of Drinking Water to 5000 People

60% of people in Bangladesh lack access to safe drinking water. The availability of water fluctuates greatly throughout the year due to the impact of the climate, and the problem is worsened by rising water salinity and the presence of arsenic contaminating the groundwater.

To improve this situation, Grundfos through the SafeWater strategic business unit, and BRAC Bangladesh have come together under the 'Safe Water for All' partnership to build a viable business model for water entrepreneurs. The project aims to create a sustainable business model in Bangladesh by installing water treatment plants to ensure safe drinking water.

One of the initial success stories of this project is a commercially operated water treatment plant in Dacope, part of Khulna District. This plant has improved access to safe drinking water for the local population, which previously suffered from severe water scarcity. From April to June 2024, this plant supplied 185,000 litres of safe drinking water to 5000 individuals.

By 2025, the goal is to install an additional 28 water treatment plants across Bangladesh, providing an estimated 140,000 people with access to safe drinking water through this partnership.

“It was a unique experience to implement advanced and robust reverse osmosis (RO) solutions in highly remote areas where the customer faced challenges securing funding and had limited know-how. I was very pleased to support this project at various levels, including conducting market studies, identifying partners, selecting technology, designing, and executing the project.”
