Idrætscenter Jammerbugt in Fjerritslev installs Grundfos MIXIT mixing loop
At Idrætscenter Jammerbugt, the Grundfos MIXIT mixing loop has dramatically improved heating in the sports and swimming pool halls, the gym and the hostel. “It works brilliantly,” is the overall assessment, and the heating and sanitation company praises the very quick and easy installation. The words ‘big savings’ are repeated often.
It works brilliantly!
Hall Assistant Kjeld Nielsen gives a few examples of the new adjustment times in the sports centre. It used to take 2 hours to raise the temperature 2 degrees in the swimming pool hall. It now takes only half an hour. “This is thanks to MIXIT and the new ventilation system,” he says.
Kjeld also credits MIXIT for the even flow now seen in the old radiators in the badminton hall. “This has been quite a challenge in the past. It is an arched hall from the 50s with roofing felt, which can get extremely hot in the sun. It has become much easier to control the temperature, and the system is very responsive, leading to great savings.”
Takes the weather into account
The MIXIT units in the badminton hall and hostel have temperature sensors which shut down the systems when the outside temperature rises above 18°C. “We no longer have to worry about whether some of the radiators in the 40 rooms at the hostel are turned up, and we can turn the various zones on and off with a single touch, or set programmes based on whether the rooms are in use,” says the hall assistant. He also highlights the value and savings of having different night and day flow temperatures.
MIXIT also has a built-in return temperature sensor, which ensures optimal heat utilisation without penalty fees.
Easy, fast and neat
It was the sports centre’s heating and sanitation company, Kaj Rasmussen from Fjerritslev, that become aware of the new mixing loop solution from Grundfos. Ulrich Kristensen from here reports that installation was smooth and easy, and included integration with the existing Siemens SCADA system. “The MIXIT team at Grundfos worked closely with us, the sports centre and the programmers from Siemens, to ensure that the right parameters control the eight MIXIT units in the various locations. It works brilliantly!”
Kevin Vognsen Kristensen, who was responsible for the installation, is also thrilled.“With only 2 components instead of the usual 10-12, installation is much easier and faster than for a traditional mixing loop. It is also easy to insulate, because it comes with a full insulation jacket. It’s a great system – and looks neat.”
Kjeld agrees. “The old systems took up a lot of space, and one of the installations is visible in a hallway. This is not a problem with MIXIT – it’s elegant. You don’t even notice it.”
The future is already digital
Sales Engineer Uffe Lund from Grundfos notes that MIXIT is not only the mixing loop of the future, but also the first example of a plug-and-play solution where different devices communicate digitally via Grundfos GO – a smart phone app.
“This makes commissioning and daily operation and control very simple and straightforward, and the MIXIT unit need never become outdated – the software can simply be updated via Grundfos GO Remote as new features are developed,” notes the sales engineer.
So MIXIT may well also have a role to play when the recently approved DKK 50 million expansion of the sports centre is completed a few years from now...
