Staff exchange cell phones for water

This is the invitation to Grundfos staff in Europe and the USA when the UN's World Water day focuses on water on 22 March.

- By donating their used cell phones, staff can make a difference for people in Kenya who don't have access to clean water, at the same time protecting the environment by extending the lifetime of the cell phones and reducing the amount of electronic waste, said Pernille Blach Hansen, Grundfos Director of Sustainability.

The collection of cell phones is part of the global campaign, 'Grundfos Brings Water2Life", in which staff from the Group's companies in more than 50 countries collect money for sustainable Grundfos LIFELINK water projects.

- Sustainability and social responsibility are core values for Grundfos. This is why we made the Water2Life programme as a platform on which staff may personally make a difference, said Ms Blach Hansen.

The projects are implemented in Kenya in cooperation with the Danish Red Cross. So far staff have collected money for five projects. 1,000 used cell phones collected on 22 March equal another water project.

In the campaign Grundfos is cooperating with Recycling Angel who ensures all data of the cell phones will be erased before the phones are resold. The profit from the sales will be donated to the water projects.
