Perfect water pressure
Learn about perfect water pressure and how it will improve the comfort of homeowners.
In this video, we will take a closer look at how low or varying water pressure affects homeowners, why it occurs and how the SCALA2 water booster pump can remedy the situation.
Low or varying water pressure is a common, but inconvenient phenomenon in residential buildings. It leads to poor showers, trickling taps and uncomfortable changes in the water temperature.
There are two main causes of varying water pressure: Varying inlet pressure and multiple open taps.
Let us start with the inlet pressure. During the course of a day, the water pressure in the city mains will change along with the water consumption in the entire system. In the mornings and evenings, when most people are at home, showering, cleaning and cooking, the water pressure is low. But when they are away during the day, the water pressure increases. This variation can be felt directly at the taps and showers.
The second reason for varying water pressure is multiple taps running at the same time. In a typical domestic water system, every time you turn on a tap, whether it is a shower, a washing machine or the sprinkler outside, the water pressure will drop. This will be felt as rapid changes in the amount of water flowing from the taps and/or the temperature of the water, which might change from hot to ice cold in an instant.
SCALA2 features intelligent pump control. This allows the water booster pump to take both inlet pressure and multiple open taps into account and deliver perfect water pressure throughout the system. Here is how it works.
SCALA2 is equipped with an integrated sensor that measures the water pressure delivered by the pump to the tap, for instance the shower.
The sensor sends a signal to the pump control, which then compares the measured water pressure level with the desired water pressure – that is, the pressure you have set based on the homeowner’s needs.
If there is a difference between these two measurements, the pump control signals the frequency converter to increase or decrease pump speed and thus the water pressure in the system. While this might seem like a complex operation, it happens so fast that the homeowner will never feel any change in pressure at all.
For installers, this means that the set-up process is quick and easy. Simply set the desired pressure level using the control panel and check the water pressure at the furthest tapping point – preferably a shower, as this is where insufficient pressure will be felt most directly by the homeowner.
If the water pressure is perfect here, this will be the case at all tapping points, no matter if the inlet pressure varies or several taps are running at the same time.
