Guided setup
Learn how to use the guided setup feature for the ALPHA HWR and ALPHA COMFORT SYSTEM pumps, the essential control modes, and how to use the guided setup through the Grundfos GO app.
In this module, we will introduce the guided setup feature for the ALPHA HWR and ALPHA COMFORT SYSTEM pumps, highlight essential control modes, … and explain how to use guided setup through the Grundfos GO app.
Setting up a new pump can be a difficult job. It’s hard to determine which control modes and settings to use. When the incorrect speed setting is chosen, it could potentially lead to the following:
Excessive energy consumption, leading to higher energy bills.
Noise in the system.
And resident discomfort.
To help you deliver a perfect installation every time, the ALPHA HWR and ALPHA COMFORT SYSTEM pumps provide guided setup through the Grundfos GO app. This feature will recommend the most relevant control modes and settings for the hot water recirculation system in which the pump is installed. The ALPHA HWR and ALPHA Comfort System pumps can recommend: 24/7 mode – the pump will run in constant curve 3 capped with maximum flow limits suitable for varying pipe sizes. And AUTOADAPT – this enables the pump to automatically adapt to the system needs. The ALPHA HWR can also recommend: Temperature Control – this turns the pump on and off at specific temperatures, like an aquastat.
Now first let’s explore how to use the guided setup feature using the temperature control mode … for the ALPHA HWR pump as an example. First, ensure that the pump is powered on and that your smartphone or tablet has Bluetooth activated. A pairing sequence can be initiated from both the pump interface and the Grundfos GO app. When done from the app, the connect icon will start blinking and you must push the button to pair. To initiate a pairing from the pump interface, push the connect button and the blue LED will start blinking. The smart device should now be able to discover the pump in the Grundfos GO app.
Next, select “start setup”. You’ll be asked whether you want to set up a new schedule. In this example, we will choose “skip”. Then you’ll be asked to select the heater type. Here we’ll choose tank. Press next.
The app will now ask if the pump is externally controlled. In this example, we will choose “no” and then press next. The app will then provide two options for setup. We will choose temperature control and press next. The app will tell you that if the ambient temperature falls out of the 50-95°F range, the pump may use the default fallback. Press next.
Now you will be presented with two control mode options. We'll select AUTOADAPT here and press next. Now you can choose to vent the pump before completing the guided setup process.
We'll choose to vent the pump. Press next. Now you can name the pump. Press next. Finally, you will be presented with a summary of your setup selections for review… and you will be able to create a report or go to the operating dashboard.
The set-up of ALPHA Comfort System differ slightly from ALPHA HWR. Let’s select start setup to see what that looks like. We’ll start by skipping the add schedule option. And for the heater type we’ll choose tank and press next. For external control we’ll choose no and press next. We will keep the cycle time control selected and press next. For the setup we will choose AUTOADAPT and select next. Now you will be asked if you want to vent the pump.
Select start venting and press next. Finally, you will be presented with a summary of your setup selections for review… and you will be able to create a report or go to the operating dashboard.
That covers our introduction of guided setup for the ALPHA COMFORT SYSTEM and ALPHA HWR pumps.
