Guided commissioning (ALPHA)
Get introduced to the ALPHA pump’s guided setup feature, highlight essential control modes, and explain how to use guided setup through the Grundfos GO app and the pump interface.
In this module, we will introduce the ALPHA pump’s guided setup feature, highlight essential control modes, and explain how to use guided setup through the Grundfos GO app and the pump interface.
Commissioning a newly installed pump or recommissioning an existing one can be a difficult job. It’s hard to determine which control modes and settings to use, when incorrect settings and control modes are chosen, a whole range of problems can occur:
Excessive energy consumption, leading to higher energy bills
Noise in the system
Resident discomfort
To help you deliver a perfect installation every time, ALPHA pumps provide guided setup through the Grundfos GO app. This feature will recommend the most relevant control modes and settings for the application in which the pump is installed … and ensure the lowest possible electrical bill, high comfort, and low energy consumption.
The ALPHA pump can recommend:
Constant pressure AUTOADAPT for Zone Valve Systems and floor heating systems with actuators
Proportional pressure AUTOADAPT for systems with thermostatic radiator valves (TRV’s)
… and Constant curve AUTOADAPT for zone pumps in systems without TRV’s.
The AUTOADAPT technology constantly analyzes the system it is part of and automatically adjusts the pump setpoint to match the ever changing heat loads.
Finally constant flow is the recommended control mode for zone pumps in systems where the heat emitters’ desired flow is known.
Thereby, you ensure the same flow independent of what happens in the other parts of the system.
Now let’s explore how to use the guided setup feature using the constant flow control mode as an example. First ensure that the ALPHA pump is powered on, and your smart phone or tablet has Bluetooth activated. A pairing sequence can be initiated from both the pump display and Grundfos GO. When done from Grundfos GO, the connect icon will start blinking and the user must push the button to pair. To initiate a pairing from the pump display, push the connect button and the blue LED will start blinking. The smart device should now be able to discover the pump in Grundfos GO app.
Next, select “begin setup”.
First you will be asked to select the circulator role from the list.
In this example we will choose “Zone Pump”.
Press next.
The app will then ask what type of heat emitter the pump serves. In this example we will choose “base board”.
Press next.
At this point, you will be presented with two control mode options.
Here we will press the expand button on the constant flow option to read more, then select it and press next.
Now you will be asked to set the constant flow. If you do not know what value to set, press the “help calculate flow” option for guided assistance.
Let’s see what that looks like…
First you will be asked about size of the area served by the zone.
Input the value Press next.
Then you must input the BTU per square feet of the area served by the zone.
Select a value.
Press next.
Lastly you must input the delta t for the selected heat emitter.
Input the value.
Press next.
Confirm the constant flow value is correct by pressing next.
Here you can name your customer’s pump.
Press save.
Here you can choose to vent the pump before completing the guided setup process.
Press next or skip.
Finally, you will be presented with a summary of your setup selections for review.
That covers our introduction to guided commissioning.
