36% Energy Reduction at Hilton Hotel in APAC
Hilton Hua Hin, a 32-year old beachside property, located in Thailand was looking at ways on how to improve their overall building efficiency. As their chiller pumps were starting to age and operated manually without optimization or control, it was time to consider an upgrade.

The situation
As part of Hilton’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) ‘Travel with purpose’ program is designed to drive responsible travel and tourism globally. The hotel management team was particularly interested in exploring ways on how to help the transition towards a more sustainable operation. ‘’The success of our business is linked to our ability to operate and grow sustainably, to further reduce our CO2 emissions is critical and that is where Grundfos stepped in. They presented to us their Energy Earnings Program and they were able to demonstrate that through zero hotel investment we are able to save operation cost whilst reducing our CO2 emissions’ - Mr. Philippos Arghirides, General Manager, Hilton Hua Hin.

The solution
After carrying out a complete system audit with hydraulic measurements, we identified an opportunity to reduce energy consumption by replacing the existing chiller and condenser pumps as well as add control logic. Grundfos offered to upgrade the pumps inside our Energy Earnings program. ‘’Our program provides an opportunity for hotels to realize energy savings without the need of any financial investment. The turnkey solution is financed, implemented and maintained by us throughout the shared saving period’’ says Lewis Brown, Lead Business Development Manager CBS. The upgrade was for 4 chiller pumps, 2x variable speed drives (CUE) and control logic. ‘’The zero investment solution presented to us was very attractive and this was made possible through the installation of highly efficient pumps and controls’’ says Mr. Philippos Arghirides, General Manager, Hilton Hua Hin.
The Grundfos CUE is a variable frequency drive for the effective speed control of any Grundfos pump without integrated drives, irrespective of size or area of application. Grundfos CUE is an integral part of Grundfos iSOLUTIONS.
The outcome
The newly installed pumps are delivering a 36% energy saving which translates to approx. 120,000 kg of CO2 reduction. The system is now also fully optimized and responds to changes of load in the building through the installed variable speed drives with sensors. ‘’Through this partnership with Grundfos we upgraded our pumps and control systems which resulted in significant energy savings’’ says Mr. Philippos Arghirides, General Manager, Hilton Hua Hin.
